Learning transfer
How we evidence
learning transfer.
Learning is less about information and more about transformation.
Learning transfer means putting new insight and skills into practice at work. Our Learning in Action process gives participants and commissioners a structured way to gather examples of application, explore the difference people observe and identify what needs further support.

From the session
to everyday practice.
Commissioners want to know whether learning is being used at work. Rockwater’s Learning in Action approach makes space for practical evidence: what people tried, what happened and what difference they observed.
- 01 / About one week after
A few focused questions
About one week after each session or module, participants receive a short Learning in Action questionnaire, with no more than 4–5 questions asking for evidence, anecdotes and specific examples of how they have applied their learning.
- 02 / Around four weeks to apply
Gather evidence at work
Participants then have around four weeks to gather and submit examples. They put the learning into practice, notice what happens and capture the difference it makes in real situations.
- 03 / Then come back together
The Learning in Action Huddle
The cohort reconvenes, usually virtually, for roughly two hours. Participants share how they have implemented the learning, the impact they have observed and what they want to try next.
A question might be
“When have you been able to use the CARE Assertiveness Framework and what difference has it made in that situation?”
More than a follow-up conversation
The huddle brings the original learning back into focus and helps participants articulate how they are growing as leaders.
- Evidence of application. Specific examples make it easier to see how learning is transferring into practice and where further support is needed.
- Learning from each other. Hearing colleagues’ experiences offers fresh insight and encourages people to try approaches they have not yet used.
- A shared view of impact. Managers and commissioners have an opportunity to hear participants’ examples and corroborate the changes they have observed.
Structured evidence of application and observed impact gives you a more informed conversation about what is changing and what needs to happen next.
